Access and Security
With BDT Stores, it is simple to control who can access content on your online stores to give your customers a tailored experience and peace of mind.
Customer Groups
Using Customer Groups, you can control access to almost any aspect of your online store, including products, product categories, payment methods, shipping methods, and site reporting and admin features.
Clients like to use Customer Groups to create a “store within a store” experience where department managers can manage their specific department’s products. You can use this to tailor your customer’s viewing experience (so only employees in individual departments can see “their” products), control who has access to different payment methods on your store, let your customers self-manage aspects of their store, and more.
When paired with security settings like domain automation, groups allow you to even more dynamically tailor the website experience for individual users and groups of users, all in an automated way that “just works” once configured.
-
Products and Product Categories can be assigned to customer groups. You can use this to create categories by department for a customer and control which departments can see items (like HR, Marketing, etc.), or pair customer groups with other automation tools like Access Codes to give users access to exclusive items or group pre-buys.
-
Groups are an essential part of configuring payment methods and shipping methods. Whether you need to control who has the ability to ship products to their home vs. their office, control who can place an order with you via PO/Invoice, or even control who needs to have their corporate orders approved prior to production/shipping, it all starts with security groups.
-
BDT stores include domain-based automation, making it simple to add users to groups on login based on their email address. If you have a customer with multiple child companies, for example, you can automatically control what products individual employees can see by creating customer groups + domain automations for their domains.
-
Access Codes are another extremely powerful automation tool, allowing users to be added to groups and put into a specific transaction journey. Using these codes with groups you can hide products, categories, logos, and more behind a code to control who has access.
Secure By Design
Our stores are built with multiple layers of security, allowing you to set rules that fit best for your customers, their audience, and their concerns about store access.
Security rules are configured per store and can be changed by you at any time as your customers’ needs change.
-
You can control:
Whether or not users can create an account (if you or your customer want you to manully create user accounts)
Whether or not the system forces users to validate their email address on registration
Whether or not you want to allow “plus addressing” (ex: JohnSmith+Marketing@example.org)
Whether or not you want to use a Captcha at login and/or registration
-
In addition to controlling whether or not users can register for a store, you can limit who can register by restricting registrations to specific email domains. When combined with email validation, this is a powerful way to prevent unauthorized access.
-
You can control whether or not users can see the contents of a store before logging in (anonymous access).
Additionally, you can also control whether or not your store should be indexable by search engines
